Personal Mission Statement

My mission is to illuminate the elegance of reason, science, and math, and to help others move from uncertainty to clarity. I focus on the interplay between systems and their components, and how these shape both concrete fields like physics and abstract domains like philosophy. My purpose is not just to prove or apply principles, but to discover universal patterns and their applications across disciplines. I pursue knowledge through scientific thought, experimentation, and logical reasoning to advance science and enrich life.

Core Values

I have always hated the traditional, corporate view of core values. A lot of us have the same characteristics or values, but it's in how we express them, or what drives them. So instead, these are the core principles/tenets/ideals/vows I live by.
  • - Humanity's greatest strength is accumulated knowledge: science, math, the arts, and creative work, each generation building on the last. I owe most of what I know to teachers, mentors, and books, and I owe the same forward.
  • - Life's value is rooted in existence itself, and our well-being is tied to the well-being of the world. The Dao, the universal flow that seems to connect everything, is the closest name I have found for how I see the world; I try to be a good steward of that flow, to trust it and follow it rather than fight it, steering only where steering is needed. We are of the world, and the world is of us; all is one, and one is all. I create, become, and embody my own karma.
  • - Drawing on our shared strengths only works when expression is free. I hold freedom of speech, expression, and interpretation as fundamental (my line: argument is protected, targeting people is not), and with them freedom of information: open, honest, and reachable by everyone. Every connection and conversation is a chance to learn, teach, or grow.

Family & Community

My commitments are first to myself, then to my spouse, then to my household, then my extended family, then local communities, and so on and so forth. I believe in leaving a place better than you found it, and taking ownership and pride in the process.

Note On Families and Relationships

I believe that family is more than a blood bond or a matter of proximity at a young age; I believe family is chosen. Given that same freedom of agency, consent, and safety, adults should be able to construct relationships and family structures however they see fit.
